Perfume Genius Brings Slow Dance Feels to Billboard Pride Prom

When does prom take place in a living room? During a pandemic, naturally. Perfume Genius gave us a peek into his home during Billboard’s Pride Prom on Saturday (June 13), sending in a performance clip of the gorgeous “Whole Life” from his Set My Heart on Fire Immediately album.

“I thought it could be a good slow dance prom song — slightly somber energy for you queer people,” says Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas, whose effortlessly affecting vocal range is on beautiful display here, with his partner Alan providing hypnotic keyboard accompaniment.

“If there’s any constant to my days [in quarantine], it’s listening to music all the time and finding comfort in it or escape or whatever I need,” Hadreas recently told Billboard. “Hopefully my songs can do that for somebody’s day.”
