For a ‘modern’ and ‘progressive’ country Australia has too many health failures

Sky News host Peter Gleeson says there is a "litany" of "health failures" published in the tabloids every day of the week that it was surprising to have seen how in a "progressive" country Australia still had these problems.

The remarks came as The Mercury newspaper reported Tasmania's "peak doctor association" had asked for more funding to upgrade the state's hospitals.

"[Tasmania] wouldn't be the first state or territory in this country to have major health department implications and problems at the moment - we're seeing that in Queensland," he said.

"In fact if you pick up any newspaper in this country every day of the week there's a litany of health failures - and yet in a modern, progressive country like ours we shouldn't be having this."
