Who an actor is in their ‘regular life shouldn’t matter’: Trans actors playing trans characters

Giggle founder Sall Grover says who an actor is in their “regular life shouldn’t matter” while they are acting after Australian actor Guy Pearce’s Twitter post questioned if only transgender actors could play trans characters in films.

“There’s so many movies that the actor has absolutely nothing in common with the person that they’re playing,” Ms Grover told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“Even you think like actors play real-life people, they’re not them – would Erin Brokovich be a better film if it was Erin Brokovich playing it rather than Julia Roberts?”
