The Ottawa Humane Society is the latest organization to announce that a major fundraiser will go online due to COVID-19.

The annual Wiggle Waggle Walk and Run, now its its 32nd year, has been cancelled, the OHS announced Tuesday.

This year, would-be walkers and runners are encouraged to raise money with their own fundraising campaigns.

The online event allows participants to use the OHS fundraising platform to track the funds they raise and share their progress with their friends and family.

“It’s sad that we need to cancel the Wiggle Waggle Walk and Run for 2020,” OHS president and chief executive Bruce Roney said in a statement.

Last year’s event raised more than $200,000. More than 8,000 animals come into the humane society’s care every year.

“We’re really counting on past participants to take part in virtual fundraising to provide life-saving care for the animals in the walk’s absence.”
