The Ottawa police are investigating two officers after a video posted on TikTok purportedly captured audio of them in marked cruisers laughing about beating someone up.

“We take this issue very seriously as it potentially undermines public trust and confidence in the Ottawa Police Service,” Const. Amy Gagnon said.

So seriously that they’re investigating even though no formal complaint has been filed. The department’s professional standards unit is investigating and it wants anyone with information to call it at 613-236-1222, ext. 5830.

The video, posted on TikTok, purports to capture two officers, parked side-by-side and talking through their driver’s side windows. The audio is difficult to hear, but the TikTok user posted purported excerpts from the conversation, in which the officers are allegedly laughing about a reputed police beating.

“So we get down there and we beat the s–t out of him. Ottawa police laughing about police brutality,” the TikTok user posted.

The video was taken on Dec. 20 at 12:20 a.m. on York Street, according to the TikTok post, which included the unit numbers of both Ottawa police cruisers.
