Popular country music DJ Jeff Hopper is back at home after a harrowing four days at the The Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus.

“It’s unbelievable being back … after four days of fighting for my life,” Hopper, co-host of the Morning Pickup with Sophie and Jeff on Pure Country 94, said in a Facebook post.

Hopper was effusive in his praise for staff at the General.

“They powered me through,” he said.

The DJ apologized for his shortness of breath and raspy voice in the video.

“My lungs are still a little messed up, but I’m home,” he said.

Hopper lost his father to COVID-19 on Nov. 22.

He apparently contracted the disease himself after visiting his father and was hospitalized five days later.

He was treated with steroids and began his recovery.

Like many COVID-19 survivors, Hopper urged people in the message to follow public health guidelines on physical distancing, mask use and handwashing.

“(Hospital staff are great) but they don’t want to see you here,” he said.
