Jill Biden appears to kiss Doug Emhoff on the LIPS before State of the Union: Kyrsten Sinema shows up in a VERY bold yellow dress and Paul Pelosi sits next to Bono in extravagant opening to Biden’s big night
- First lady and first gentleman exchanged a warm greeting before speech
- Sinema joked there was ‘no competition’ for best-dressed
- Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul chatted with Bono in first lady’s box
President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address kicked off with a sudden smooch between first and second couple members and yet another bold fashion move by influential Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.
The early fireworks opened up a speech that typically devolves into policy lists and platitudes as the night wears on
Tuesday night’s prime time event featured angry exchanges between Biden and House Republicans who booed him for claiming they want to ‘sunset’ Social Security and Medicare.
Sinema made a bold entrance into the House chamber for the speech, after forcing Washington to hold its collective breath during talks on the Inflation Reduction Act, then later announcing she had switched from Democrat to independent.
When a reporter told her outside the Senate chamber before she made her way to the event that she won the night’s best dressed award hands down, she quipped: ‘No competition,’ DailyMail.com can reveal.
First lady Jill Biden wore her own strong color, a shade of purple, and gave a very warm greeting to first gentleman Doug Emhoff when they met in the first lady’s box in a gallery above the House floor.
They clasped arms during a greeting, and their lips appeared to briefly lock during a kiss.

‘Um, why did Jill Biden and Kamala Harris’ husband kiss each other on the lips?’ wrote one popular commentator on Twitter.
Emhoff, whose wife Vice President Kamala Harris was seated behind Biden and next to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, brought as a guest Ruth Cohen, a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor who made it through multiple concentration camps including Auschwitz.
The most prominent celebrity on hand was U2’s Bono, who is no stranger to the Capitol. He was a regular visitor during the George W. Bush administration while pushing for developing world debt relief, and has promoted funds for AIDS and global health causes.

Pelosi and Bono chatted at length before the speech
Before Biden spoke he could be seen chatting with Paul Pelosi, who is still recovering from the hammer attack by an intruder at his San Francisco home.
Pelosi sported a black hat, as he has at other public events following his hospitalization for the attack, where the suspect lunged at his head.
During their early interactions Pelosi appeared to be vibrant, and was gesticulating and doing most of the talking while the rock star listened.
