Man offers girl money after beginning ‘uncomfortable conversation’ in Greenwich

Parents have been warned after a “suspicious” man engaged a schoolgirl in an “uncomfortable conversation” before offering her money in Greenwich

The incident took place on the morning of Thursday, January 6, near Nisa in the Averly Hill area of Bexley Road.

Sergeant Geoff Warren brought the incident to the attention of parents at a local school in a letter seen by News Shopper.

It reads: “I have been made aware that a suspicious male engaged a female pupil ina nuncomfotable conversation and offered her money.

“This occurred on the morning of Thursday January 6 near to the Nisa store in Bexley Road (Avery Hill shops).

“I am working with your school and Eltham Safer Neighbourhood Teams who will be conducting patrols in the area.

“Should a similar incident occur can you please advise your children to walk away from anybody who makes them feel uncomfortable and call the police.”

The incident occured a week before two girls were sexually assaulted in Greenwich, which also prompted a warning from Sergeant Warren.

A 16-year-old girl in school uniform was assaulted on Poplar Place on Wednesday (January 12), while a 17-year-old was followed off a 422 bus the next day and attacked on Wellington Street.

Officers advised girls to keep to “busy, well-lit areas” where possible, and have increased police presence.
