What to Know

The San Antonio Spurs haven’t won a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies since Dec. 23 of 2020, but they’ll be looking to end the drought on Wednesday. The Spurs are getting right back to it as they host Memphis at 8:30 p.m. ET Jan. 26 at AT&T Center. While the odds are definitely not in San Antonio’s favor, at least they’ll be on their home court in front of their own fans.

San Antonio took their game against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday by a conclusive 134-104 score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point San Antonio had established a 105-74 advantage. They can attribute much of their success to point guard Dejounte Murray, who posted a double-double on 19 points and ten dimes in addition to five boards, and center Jakob Poeltl, who had 18 points along with nine rebounds. That’s the fourth consecutive matchup in which Murray has had at least ten assists.

Meanwhile, the Grizz lost to the Dallas Mavericks on the road by a decisive 104-91 margin. A silver lining for Memphis was the play of point guard Ja Morant, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 13 rebounds in addition to six assists. The contest made it Morant’s third in a row with at least 33 points.

San Antonio’s win lifted them to 18-30 while Memphis’ defeat dropped them down to 32-17. We’ll see if the Spurs can repeat their recent success or if the Grizzlies bounce back and reverse their fortune.
