Dwight Howard won a ring in the NBA, and now he’s gearing up for a ring of a different kind.

The former NBA All-Spear appeared at the WWE tryout in Nashville ahead of SummerSlam and cut a memorable promo on the stage. Since then, fans have bene buzzing about his potential venture into the wrestling world.

During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Howard described how his friend, WWE Global Ambassador Titus O’Neil, encouraged him to go to Nashville if he was serious about pursuing sports entertainment. He made it clear that he’s serious about potentially joining WWE, and he also stated that he had a great experience.

“Well, Titus O’Neil and myself are close friends, and we’ve talked about me being a wrestler one day. I told him that I was very, very interested in becoming a wrestler one day. It’s been a dream of mine. I’ve always wanted to be on the big stage of wrestling, and I have all the WWE games and WCWs on N64 I play. So I just wanted to have an opportunity, and he said if you’re serious about wanting to be a wrestler, make your way to Tennessee, Nashville for SummerSlam and we’ll see how serious you are.

“So I drove down to Nashville from Atlanta, me and my son and my cousin. We got this show on the road. I showed everybody how serious I was about the WWE and how honored I was about being in the presence of so many great people and just all the people at WWE. It was an amazing experience.”

When asked whether his goal would be to win the WWE Championship, Howard noted that the accolade would be “amazing”, but he wants to start at the bottom and work his way up by training to become a wrestler first.

“That would be amazing, but I wanna take it step by step,” said Howard. “I don’t want to disrespect anybody in the WWE or none of the wrestlers that are trying out. I’m humbly coming forward and I wanna be able to go and get in the ring and actually train as a wrestler, not a basketball player. I’ve had multiple WWE wrestlers, Hall of Famers, and wrestlers from the past contact me about training at their facilities and stuff like that.

“It’s an amazing experience and before I do anything seriously, I really wanna train first and understand how to do everything because I have the utmost respect for every wrestler, no matter what division they are, female, male. I have respect because it’s very to do what these people do on a consistent basis, so I wanna be able to come in as a rookie and start from the bottom. At the top, I would love to have the WWE Championship, but only after working my way up and doing it with hard work and with a smile on my face.”
