Ring of Honor star and booker Marty Scurll is the latest wrestler to make a statement regarding sexual abuse allegations. Scurll claims the encounter he had was consensual with the fan but says that the wrestling community needs to change and asks fans to stop attacking her.
“I am aware that a young woman has bravely come forward with her account of sexual abuse by some members of the wrestling community in the UK five years ago, a community I was a part of,” Scurll wrote on social media. “Although I truly believe that our encounter that evening was consensual, and the fact that hte encounter was legal; is almost not the point. I understand that she now views our encounter as a bigger problem within the wrestling community.”
Scurll then says what concerns him is that the fan was made to feel unsafe within the community and that isn’t acceptable. “I also understand that people have been attacking her on social media, and I implore you to please stop,” Scurll asks. “She has a right to her voice and it is our responsibility to listen.”
