The Do’s and Don’ts of Web Design

Web design is an important component of your business. When you can design a website well, you will find that it will attract the customers more than before, encourage them to make a purchase, and can be a great way to help you increase sales.

While a web design agency will provide you with some of the help and tips that you need to take control over your web design, there are a few components that you can consider on your own as well to make a stellar website that looks amazing as well. Some of the things that you should consider when creating your own website include:

Website Layout

When it comes to the website layout, there are a few things that you can do and a few that you should avoid. To start, do not try to reinvent the wheel. You can be unique, but if you take things too far, the website will be clunky and slow and will not do what you want. It can also make it harder for the visitor to use and they will choose to go to your competition.

Instead, you should use the right UX standards to make sure that your website is friendly to all visitors who stop by. Creativity is one of the best things that you can do on the website, but it should never come between you and a good online presence.

When you structure the layout of the website, you need to ensure that all visitors to the page will get smooth browsing along the way. Make the navigation on the site simple and clear to see, have the links make sense, and do not clutter things up too much on the page.

Background Visuals

Never choose a background that is going to be distracting. It is much better to have a plain background or nothing there at all rather than choosing an image or a video that is distracting from the main message that you want to share. Instead, choose a good background that will inspire the visitors to stick around and even make a purchase.

There is a reason that this is known as the background. It needs to be beautiful and help the website, but it should never be too dominant out there. Whether you are using a vector, a picture, or a video, you must make sure that the visual is not going to distract from the main purpose of the site.

Be careful about the contrast between the text on the website and the background. If the text disappears into the background, you are going to run into some troubles with the visitor being able to read your message.

Mobile Design

Do not forget that your website must look good, not only on a PC but also on all mobile screens. Since a large number of your visitors will get to the site through their phones or tablets, you want to make sure that the website will look good on these devices and that they will work. Take the time to optimize all of the components for this mobile moving.

The good news is that most website-building websites, and most web design agencies, will work to help you optimize for mobile content. This will help you to reach as many customers as possible, rather than turning your visitors away because the website is slow or does not work on their mobile device.

Space Distribution

Never clutter up the screen on the website. If you put too many items into the website, it will slow things down and makes it hard for the visitor to know what they should look at first. Your goal is to consider some of the content hierarchy and actually utilize some of the white space to your advantage on the page.

Browsing through a good website is like eating a good meal. No matter how good the food is, you do not want to have it shoved into your mouth before you can chew and enjoy it. When designing the website, you need to make sure the screen is not too full of all the content. This will annoy the visitor and makes them miss out on something that they really need.

The Images

When choosing images, you need to be careful. Stock images can work, but you need to make sure they are not too cheesy. You do not want to be cheesy and the pictures that you pick need to match with the content that you put on the website. If you are able to do this, you will find that it can make your whole website more relatable and a better stop for the customer.

Gone are those days when you would pick out a picture of the supermodel families that were all perfect and matched one another. This is such a fake picture and your visitors are too smart for that type of tactic. You need to take some time to pick pictures that are real and match some of the information on the website too.

The people who visit your site are going to want to interact with your website, and they like to have real people in them like themselves. This will make them feel more at home and helps them to relate to the website as well.

Always choose the right images, ones that match the content that you would like to share with them, ones that add to the website, and ones that do not take too long to load. With the right picture, the website will win each time.

Optimizing Your Website for All Customers

As you are creating the website that you would like to use with your customers, you need to spend some time optimizing the website and making it look good. This will ensure that the images look nice, the text is easy to read, and the navigation is simple too. When all of this comes together well, you will have a website that gets results.
