Weather experts forecast heavy snow to fall tomorrow

A yellow weather warning has been issued with snow expected over London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

The Met Office issued the warning this morning, forecasting heavy snow tomorrow (Saturday, January 16) from between 3am and 8pm.

Rain moving move eastwards through England is likely to turn to snow as it runs into cold air over east and southeast England, the Met Office said.

Snow is likely to fall to low levels on the leading edge of the rain area before snow levels gradually rise for many from the west.

East Anglia and parts of Kent and Sussex look most at risk of seeing snow for longest, with 5-10 centre metres possible in places.

Met Office experts predict 1-3 centre metres at most in London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

Given recent wet weather and high river levels with rain and snow falling, then melting some flooding impacts are also possible.

What to expect

  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
  • Some rural communities could become cut off
  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
