7 Fashion Trends That Are Continuing Into 2022

When is the last time you saw anyone rocking a blazer with prominent shoulder pads? Or a fashion-conscious youth with a do-rag wrapped around his head? And what happened to those pants designed to look like they were sagging? They were all the rage what feels like days ago but are now nowhere to be seen.

Experts say that fashion trends have cycles, some lasting weeks and others remaining for years. A trend will be introduced and, by some stroke of fortune, or its popularization by some prominent entertainer, become sought after. As more and more designers replicate the design and make it more available, demand reaches a peak and begins to decline.

Sooner or later, the trend becomes obsolete and unavailable in clothing stores. But somewhere down the line, a daring designer may dust it off and repackage it in a way that makes it relevant again.

2020 was the stay-home year, but as COVID-19 restrictions loosened in 2021, folks returned to caring about what to wear for their return to normal social life. Here are some of the trends that came to the fore in 2021 and will likely hold their own in 2022.

  1. Micro Tops

It seems you can hardly go three Tik-Tok videos without finding yourself staring at a micro top. And it’s easy to see why; they come in a huge range of designs and colors, and they can go with literally anything. Micro tops are what summer is for, an avenue for you to bring out the sassy you in a tasteful way.

Depending on whether you’re feeling daring or conservative, you can pair your bustier or tank top with an oversize shirt or not. You can match your micro with anything- from loose-fitting jeans to tracksuit trousers when it comes to bottoms.

  1. Flared Jeans

Flared jeans may have been invented in the 70s, but they are one trend that has refused to die. Every other decade bell-bottomed jeans have resurfaced to be paired with an assortment of tops for an updated retro look. These jeans come in a variety of flavors to match your color preference, mood and the function you have in mind for them.

Grab the medium wash flare if you need a go-to pair of jeans for everything from school runs to grocery shopping. It will keep you comfortable and cute as you go about your daily routine. White denim flares are ideal for your winter sorties. They can work with either your fur coat or oversize jacket.

  1. Faux Fur

2021 saw faux fur being explored in interesting new directions, and it’s a trend that is likely to reappear in 2022 come winter. A playful checked faux fur coat will make a lasting impression wherever you choose to deploy it, be it at the après ski or a Christmas dinner.

Faux fur comes in a variety of textures, and you want to go for the dense, luxurious option if you are in sophisticated surroundings. These coats are available in bolder, more experimental colors if you’re hoping to dazzle. And there are coats with removable fur collars if you’re looking for a multifunctional piece.

  1. Knitted and Cozy

There was a wealth of knitwear you could indulge in from the 2021 fall collections of leading fashion brands. You could have a baggy knitted poncho-style sweater for your midweek meetings or a boat-neck pullover for that easy coffee date.

  1. Minimalism

Less will always be more, and this ideology was underlined by the minimalist clothing trend in 2021. Keeping the colors and frills to a minimum was the in-thing, with neutral colors carrying the day. You could turn heads with a basic peach blouse and pale gray denim finished off with a pair of black heels.

A flowing white sleeveless satin dress, brown sandals and a straw hat is all you need for that picnic in the park or beachside stroll. Less gaudy alternatives, the huge 60s-inspired eyewear frames quietly increased in popularity over 2021. Browse one of the most popular designs, mens rimless frames for mens glasses if you need confirmation.

  1. Metals and Silvers

The stuff that glitters is back, but not in the way it appeared in the early 2000s or further back in the 80s (although some are making a case for the return of the shiny jackets with puffy sleeves). Various fashion houses have come up with tasteful ways to apply silvery finishes to dresses, skirts and jackets.

Paco Rabanne found a way to mold the metal mesh used in ancient armor into a stunning full-body piece, and Versace had a cute metallic mini dress in their collection at the New York fashion week.

  1. Sportswear

Among the sporty trends making a comeback in 2021 was the unitard that was all over TV in the eighties. Leggings, including those flared ones, became an unlikely hit that is unlikely to fizzle out anytime soon.
